Study of a wild population of red siskin completed

The study project to understand the feeding behavior and habitat requirements of the red siskin in the wild, conducted throughout 2024, was successfully completed. This study provided valuable and important information about its habitat, behavior, and the threats it faces. This data will provide a baseline for future projects focused on reintroducing individuals into the wild.

This research by Red Siskin Initiative, led by NGO Provita in Venezuela, was carried out in the west region of the country and coincided with the expected breeding season between April and May, and the beginning of the second breeding peak from September to October.

Although this study is considered to have concluded successfully and with a lot of information to work with, more studies on new populations are needed to carry out comparative analyses of habitat use and define its essential parameters to guarantee the survival of individuals in future reintroductions, and to protect the habitat of the few remaining wild populations.
